Purpose
The cost accountant position is accountable for the ongoing analysis of process constraints, target costing projects, margin analysis, and tracing costs back to underlying activities. The cost accountant must also construct and monitor those cost-effective data accumulation systems needed to provide an appropriate level of costing information to management.


Key Responsibilities
Data Collection:
  • Collect operational data and make analyses reports to forecast expenses and budget.
  • Collect production data, maintenance and inventory control data (hourly, daily and weekly).
  • Apply continuous improvement techniques to add value to data capturing tasks and to simplify it.
  • Compile and extract all necessary reports from Oracle to assist relevant managers in making decisions.
Inventory:
  • Cycle inventory count analysis and investigation of variances.
  • Review standard and actual costs for inaccuracies.
Analysis:
  • Bill of Materials and Labour, identifying variances and understanding where the problem lies.
  • Conduct ongoing process constraint analysis.
  • Report on margins by product and category.
  • Study, review, reconcile and report on periodic variances and their causes, focusing on spending variances.
  • Evaluate production costs, gains and losses and month-end closing data.
  • Identify solutions and create resources to control gaps.
Capital Expenditure:
  • Maintain an up to date file with all CAPEX documents.
  • Analysis of fixed asset register in terms of what needs to be capitalized.
  • Monthly update of the CAPEX budget file with monthly expenditure and forecast spending.
  • Disposal of Assets.
  • Tagging of new assets.
Other Duties:
  • Slides presentations preparation for Ops review meetings.
  • Monthly manufacturing cost review meetings with supply chain executive.
  • Purchase Price Variance (PPV) analysis.
  • Ensuring stock take is done in accordance with procedures and doing finance surprise counts.
  • Working with different teams to ensure that audit findings are closed off.
  • Annual review of Bill of materials to ensure accuracy.
  • Completing parts of costing packs.
Required Experience
  • 2 Years working experience in the field.
Technical/Functional Skills
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of manufacturing and business principles.
  • Analytical skills and problem solving abilities.
  • Self-motivated, high level of personal discipline.
  • Computer literate.
  • Oracle system experience.
  • Saco experience preferable.
  • Figure orientated and accurate.
  • Deadline driven.
  • Ability to function independently in pressurized environment.
  • Report writing ability.
  • Written and communication skills.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 3 year degree/diploma in costing, administration or related fields.
  • CIMA qualification beneficial.
